The Good - The Bad - The Ugly

The Good & The Bad!
On the right side is the lovely stack of crochet granny squares just waiting for their final colour of white to be added.
LOL ~ The Bad.....My after pile on the left! I was practising my Frisbee toss after I finished the last round of white yarn. Wiiiiinnnnggggg.....plop!!
As I'm using stash only, I was a little concern about how much white yarn I had. Silly girl, lots of balls left in the attic - sigh! I believe it breeds up there?

THE TRULY UGLY!!!!

Every year we normally grow tons of peppers in the garden. This year - just 4 California Wonders ( aka Green Peppers) !!! Usually, nothing bothers them except the baby squirrels when they are racing & tumbling around the young plants. This year ?? Between the ants and the baby rabbits - I can't win. I gently dug these poor sticks out & repotted them and they will be babied on the back porch. These were not in the caged area as we've never had this problem before. CRAP !!!

Road Trip thru some Amish/Mennonite areas on Thursday. Several farms harvest their hay & wheat by hand with scythes or sickles. Here they are stacked, drying....waiting to be collected by horse and wagon. We've driven by these farms many times when all the young helpers are out working but I've just never had the nerve to  snap a pic.

Yukon Quest & Sewing

With the temps being in the 33-34C range again yesterday, I decided to keep myself busy in the cool house.....doing housework....ha ha ha....NOT!!!

A DVD from the thrift store on the Yukon Quest & some Christmas fabric cutting ~ perfect.

Then a little chain piecing of the 9 patches and one very, very nastily sewn lady of the lake - soon to be unpicked and done properly. I actually have a few to redo - thanks to not checking my 1/4 " seam allowance. All it takes is to be off by a thread or two and it adds up to WONKY BLOCK! And sadly, I knew it....lazy, lazy, lazy me!
And finally, the thunderstorm that came with 'warnings' completely missed up but did present some lovely cloud formations.

Just staying out of trouble

I live in Canada ~ you know....the land of the ice & snow & Eskimos!!!!

This is toooooo hot for me. On Tuesday/Wednesday, most temperature records were broken in and around our area. We wandered to the grocery store - just because - we're idiots!! Naw, it was so I could get a picture of the temperature gauge in the car - and sweat our booties off. We don't often use the a/c in the car because we live in Canada ~ did I mention that? On the rare occasion that we do...it's usually caput - as it is now. Great - freon leak likely.

Last shot of the tadpoles at the local gardens! Once they hit this stage, the gardeners fish them out and they are released in a local stream. Several years ago they were late removing them and it was funny watching all the little frogs/toads edging their way out of the pond onto the sidewalks and gardens. It's always interesting to watch visiting kids and their parents....'please, can we take some home' beg the kids! And, after all these years - I'm still tempted myself. But, I do remember what became of those poor tadpoles....ewwwww!!!

And this fat little son-of-a-#*^@& !!!! Mr or Mrs Groundhog - has been using my veg & flower garden as it's own personal 24/7 salad bar. We caught it crawling under the chicken wire that surrounds the veggies. I was blaming the rabbits - sorry bunnies!! So, I'm minus swiss chard, chinese cabbage, zucchini and it managed to nibble off the leaves on the squash and pumpkin plants. Bad, bad groundhog.

I hate blackberries ~ LOL, and we have just a few!!!
And finally, what I've been playing around with while staying out of trouble. I belong to an on line forum that usually does several quilt block swaps each year. I stopped swapping several years ago but I keep up to date with what they are doing and will follow along! They are doing a simple 9-patch, finishing at 6.5". My take on it ~ using up florals and solids and using white as my setting pieces. Whoozer ~ quite the colours!!
I've added a few more Lady of Lake blocks to that pile, but my Orca Bay is once again on a 'timeout'!
The temperature has dropped back down to nice ~ so, a little more sewing for me! Ta......

Friday July the 13th - the year 2012!!

Evil....pure evil!!! I posted this picture on my American cousins face book page.....the year 1975. We drove down from Ontario to attend a family wedding in the Big Apple!! The picture was taken at my Aunt/Uncles house in Flushing, NY!!! My cousin William, my little sister D, then cousin Laurie and then me on the end. ROFLMAO!!! Miss Smart Arse that I was - I bought gold-tipped pure tobacco cigarettes...the most grosssssessstttt things I have ever wasted money on.

Poor William ~ he has responded back that he'll have night mares for days now!!! That - was a job well done!! Hee hee....*evil grin!!

Lady of the Lake ~ pulled out a few more blues from the stash, ones that I had over looked for one reason or another. They are sitting on the iron board waiting to be ironed - I had just hand washed them and hung outside for 30 seconds to dry in this heat!

Quick trip to the local gardens this morning and I had to laugh! The penny I had tossed on the lily pads several days ago, is still there!!! Last year we had a fella on a bicycle arrive daily to fish coins out of all the fountains and ponds. So....I tossed another one in and made a wish!!

Throw-it-away Thursday!!! Long story....

I've been storing, holding, saving, guilt-tripped into ~ a house full of other people's CRAP, and the past few weeks has seen me seriously donating STUFF to our Mennonite Thrift Stores in and around our location. The one out-of-town store that usually has fantastic vintage material will go nameless or rather - no location will come from these lips ~ ha ha ha!!!

The clothesline is once again full of freshly washed clothing and bedding that belong - not to me!! All poly-cotton fabrics have been sorted and bagged ~ stuff I've bought eons ago to sew blouses, skirts etc when I worked in an office. I've gently gone through the boxes containing odds & ends from my grandparents house and have taken pictures of items for other siblings to lay claim too. Those boxes have been with me for over 20 odd years. It's time.

The car loads of CRAP from my aunt and uncle downsizing to a nursing home, it's gotta go. I've sorted through all their pots & pans, washed, scrubbed them up, dishes, cutlery - the same! Boxes of British magazines, I had 2 piles that were 3 feet high.....good grief. My poor car groaned with every trip as well as my back. The endless boxes and bags stuffed full of OLD, stinky wool, acrylic yarn and ageing material - garbage. I was kind & thoughtful in front of my aunt, while my narcissist mother was rubbing her hands in glee of all the wonderful goodies I was getting - denying my aunt's daughter of all this lovely crap!! Garbage, garbage, garbage!!!  My cousin isn't stupid!!

One sister has a double bed, single bed, boxes of teacher's paperwork all in my attic and bed railings, metal box spring in our garage. Let's not forget the head & foot boards either. The other sister has a huge, heavy roll of cotton canvas that we were going to paint floor rugs with. Not going to happen......

LOL ~ I was going to delete what I just wrote --BUT-- it's not depressing me, it's giving me strength to continue on. The sister's have been given time frames now ~ or, their stuff goes to the thrift store. Seriously, if you can travel 3 hours to met up with your first childhood boyfriend - you can travel the 3 hours to come collect your CRAP!!!

The outcome ~ my house is becoming decluttered, we are not tripping over boxes, magazines, tins of Christmas bulbs, endless cheap china figurines, throw pillows galore,  coffee mugs x 10 for Easter, Christmas, St Patty's Day and every other occasion you can think of. I actually can see 'me' in my own house....good lord.

I do cherish the teacups & saucers from my grandparents, a few pieces of British cutlery that my great grandmother brought over with her - but at this time of my life, I need to have only me in my house ( well, better include the hubby also - although he does have the garage LOL )

So....this been Thursday, I've got several boxes packed and ready to go and will push myself to have a full car load come Saturday. AND.....will only LOOK in the thrift shop windows....ya right!!!

 Now, the good stuff.
I was actually going to open an etsy shop and sell some of my vintage quilt pieces. Can't bring myself to doing that and I'll continue to hold onto these until I'm ready to seriously tackle a wonderful project. These are just a few I had sorted out.....love them to bits!
The crocheting continues....if I'm going to plop myself in front of the TV to watch Coronation Street ( newest addiction) I better have my hands busy.
I love older, vintage children's night clothing. Well, this could be a slip or whatever - but I love the clean lines, the pin tucking on the bottom and the lovely hand crochet edging. The french seams etc....sorry about the picture, a little crinkled - $2.00. I have a white cotton sheet and a nice nightie pattern that I would like to make for myself, similar to this style. Many sizes larger....;-P~~

Ohhhh, I have someone else's Christmas angels to wrap & box up for charity....gotta go!!!!

Lavender

Today's jobs....cut lavender off bush, tidy them up & tie in bundles to dry. Just need to hang them up! Finally found my Canada Day Flags - the day after!!!

Yesterday when we were out walking, I could spy a tiny balloon on the horizon. Lovely shot of it as it passed over us. It was just coming down to land but had a set of electrical wires and a children's playground to pass over first - hence the last blast!
